Jesus
i’ve got questions about jesusOur church’s name is Maitland Evangelical Church. The first and the third words in that name are pretty obvious, but what about that middle word – “evangelical”? What’s that all about?
The word “evangelical” is based off the word “evangel” which means “The Gospel,” or, “The good news”. And that good news is all about a man: Jesus.
As Christians, we believe that Jesus was more than just a man who walked the earth two thousand years ago. Instead, we believe that He was who He said He was – God Himself. Which means that when Jesus was born as a baby, it was actually God Himself who was stepping into human history. It was God Himself who was showing us what He was like. And it was God Himself who died on the cross for our sins.
There are a lot of questions that you may have about Jesus, but this is the first and most important thing that we need to realise: When we see Jesus, we see God.
So, if you want to know what God is like, look to Jesus. If you want to know the love God has for you, look to Jesus. If you want to know what God teaches, look to Jesus.
As a church, we are all about Jesus. All our teaching and preaching and praying and singing and fellowship are all about Him. And we would love for you to get to know Him better as a result of all of these things.
